Abstract

We report a case that showed partial seizures with periodic lateralized epileptiform discharges (PLEDs) in EEG after alcohol withdrawal.
A 61 year-old chronic alcoholic male presented partial seizures after alcohol withdrawal, who had no history of previous seizure.
The initial EEG revealed PLEDs, which disappeared in the follow-up studies, and brain MRI showed multi-focal irregular low-signal intensity lesions with surrounding cerebromalacia in the bilateral basal frontal areas in T1-and T2-weighted images.
PLEDs with seizures after alcohol withdrawal in patient with preexisting focal cerebral lesions are discussed with the review of the literatures.
